“If there is worry in a man’s heart, let him cast it down….” (Proverbs 12:25)
What is KESHET?
KESHET counsellors are trained in the Humanistic Approach incorporating theories such as Gestalt, Existentialism, Transactional Analysis (TA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution- Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Person- Centred Therapy, depending on the clients’ needs.
Distinctive to the KESHET approach is the integration of creative media within the counselling session. Some of the techniques used include narrative, sand-play, clay and art media. This counselling combination offers additional means of discovering things about oneself, stimulating our clients in their process of discovery, and facilitating positive change.
Keshet counsellors come from various sectors of the Antwerp Jewish community, and are trained to recognise and understand the issues pertaining to our youth.
What is counselling and how does it work?
Counselling is based on a relationship of trust and confidentiality. It is an approach that consists of listening and supporting the client in a safe and confidential place where the client can talk about anything that is confusing or painful to him. Sometimes challenging situations occur, and counselling offers support in navigating various circumstances. A counsellor is there to guide and support the client to discover his own strengths and qualities with which to manage his reality and to reach his potential. Counselling provides opportunities to discover new things about yourself and the chance to see your life from a different perspective, offering prospects for change and the ability to make new choices. It is a place to explore different thoughts and feelings with the support of a counsellor who is non-judgemental and has an objective viewpoint.
Counsellor and client meet on a regular basis working at the clients pace to sort through the stories and concerns he brings. The ultimate intention in counselling is to learn the tools to become self sufficient.
Why would you choose counselling?
You may choose counselling in a challenging or new situation because it is difficult to speak about personal issues to family or friends. Or you may feel that you are in a viscious cycle and would like an objective listener who is not emotionally involved, to hear your concerns.
Whatever the reason, the counsellor will give you the opportunity to acknowledge and express difficult feelings, such as anger, jealousy, fear or guilt in a secure place. Counselling is a journey, a very personal process that the client leads at his own pace. This process can be demanding, but ultimately it leads to self awareness, insight and personal growth. Along the counselling road you will define your story and challenges and collect tools to manage your life story with.
Our Goals
KESHET is passionate about shaping a better future for our youth by bringing out the innate potential within each of our clients. Our vision is a world in which children and young adults, have the ability to grow up with opportunities rather than difficulties.
At KESHET we believe that early intervention prevents escalation of problems and promotes emotional health and stability. With appropriate support at an earlier stage, children can improve behaviour at home, progress faster in school and learn appropriate social skills.
Together with parents we form a dedicated team encouraging and supporting the client on his journey.
Once the client has reached his objective, the ultimate goal in counselling will be for the client to become independent of the counselling support and thereby reach self sufficiency.
